My Favourite Books Read in 2017

It was a good reading year for me. Well… half-year. I ended a very, very long reading slump around the end of April. From that point forward, I read a lot more per month than I ever had before. Still a lot less than a lot of other bloggers, but I’m calling it a win.

Not only was it a great year for quantity, but the quality was great. Everything I read was at least okay. Nothing terrible, though I’ll admit that I’m not the toughest customer. I tend to be able to see the best of things.

Here are my personal highlights for the year:

Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt

(read my review here)

I’m not opposed to horror, but I don’t read very much of it. This premise sounded really unique, so I gave it a go, and it BLEW MY MIND! Even now, when I think of that ending, I just… WOOOOOWWW!!!

Six of Crows book cover

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

(read my ‘if it was a movie’ post here)

Just about everyone in the blogosphere told me to read this. And I listened. Glad I did, cause it was SO good. I haven’t gotten around to Crooked Kingdom yet, but I will in 2018.

Golden Son by Pierce Brown

(read my review here)

This, and Morning Star. But I liked Golden Son just a little bit more. That ending. Oh, man. That ending!

Illuminae

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

(read my review here)

This is another one that just about everyone was talking about. And HOLY CRAP! I wasn’t ready for this one. I went in with high expectations and this book still went above and beyond.

Artemis by Andy Weir

(read my review here)

I haven’t read The Martian *steps to the side to dodge a rotten tomato* but this impressed me so much that The Martian is now high on my TBR.

The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli

(read my review here)

This is the one that came out of the nowhere. I hadn’t heard anything about it, and I didn’t know the author. I went for it anyway, and IT. WAS. AWESOME.

Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

This was my first Sanderson novel, but WILL NOT be my last. I’ll be reading another one very, very soon.

I’m looking forward to a lot of great reads in 2018, and it’ll all start with the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge.

Fun fact about this post: I just finished reading Steelheart TODAY!
