This is a really fun post idea that I stole from Meeghan Reads, who originally stole it from Kristin Kraves Books. Both are great posts and should be read immediately. Probably even before reading this one. Mine can wait….
You’re back! Honestly, I wasn’t sure you were coming back. In fact, I was just about to leave.
Let’s do this! Most of these books are runaway successes that just about everyone has read and raved about. And for one reason or another, I haven’t. Some of them are on my shelf and I just haven’t found the time. Some I’m still trying to figure out if it should be on TBR or not. While others haven’t managed to pique my interest, and probably won’t. There might be some unpopular opinions here, so grab your pitch forks and light your torches now. Just to save time.
Books I PROBABLY won’t read (never say never, right?)
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
I’m not really interested in hearing about Evelyn’s first husband. The six after him don’t have a chance.
A Court of Thorns and Roses
This wildly popular series has yet to make me curious. I have no reasons as to why. It just hasn’t. Sorry. #notSorry
When Dimple Met Rishi
Romance. Meh.
Dumplin’
I fully support the idea/concept of this book, but I don’t think I want to read it. Gives me the impression I’d be reading a sassy version of Dance Moms.
Books I might read (we’ll see)
Turtles all the Way Down
Seems like more romance, but the fact that it mentions Star War fan-fic in the description moves this up to the maybe pile.
Divergent
Maybe it’s because I’ve already watched the movie that puts this one so low on my list. The movie was fine. Didn’t blow me away, but kept me interested. I think I’ll eventually audiobook this series.
Outlander
The story doesn’t scream at me, but I’m a wee bit obsessed with Scotland, so that might end being the deciding factor.
Books I’ll PROBABLY read
The Night Circus
Honesty time. This book was going to be in the “probably won’t read” section until I actually read the synopsis. I don’t know what it was, but something about this cover made me think it wasn’t a book for me at all. Seems like I was wrong. Don’t judge a book by it’s… how does that go again?
Children of Blood and Bone
This is another one that the cover put me off of. But I’ve heard way too many good things about it to ignore it.
Books I WILL read!
A Darker Shade of Magic
This might be the single book that’s been waiting the longest for me to crack its cover. Pretty much since I started blogging, it’s been there. Taunting me.
Warcross
Video games? Enough said. I’m in.
Scythe
This might be the year of Shusterman for me. I already read Challenger Deep, and this one will be happening this year as well.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
This one was sent by my good friend Sam when she held a give-a-way. It was already on my TBR, but getting my copy from Sam for free put it pretty high on the old TBR!
The Cruel Prince (currently reading!)
This would have been in the MAYBE section, but the audiobook came up through the library, so I jumped. I’m only a few hours in, and it’s entertaining so far, but it’s not knocking my socks off. Maybe my expectations are too high?
Seeing that you’re not going to read The Seven Husbands hurt my heart!!!
I’d be curious to see what you think of The Night Circus. I don’t really understand the hype for that one but so many people love it.
Yes! Read Scythe. I know you’re going to love it!
I agree with you about the Night Circus. I felt so confused through a lot of it.. and I also feel the same way about Evelyn. It is one of those I want everyone to read!
I have a lot of thoughts about this post. Get ready.
1. EVELYN HUGO! It is really honestly worth all the hype. And don’t let the title throw you. While her “husbands” are important to the plot, it is SO MUCH MORE than them. It is about her life in Hollywood, what she did to “be on top” how she was treated for being a woman, etc. etc. plus some really great LGBTQ rep. I get that it might not be your cup of tea but man, it is such a good story.
2. I ALSO have 0 interest in the Court of whatever series. I felt like the lone soul who felt that way so HEY! Hi, how you doin?
3.You can definitely skip When Dimple Met Rishi. I didn’t think it was worth half the hype it got.
4. I hated Turtles all the Way Down, but I understand why some people really love it. Tread lightly. It doesn’t have much of a plot, it instead focuses more on the main character and her mental illness.
5. The Night Circus, while interesting, and honestly pretty close to what I would imagine is “your alley” is pretty romance heavy, so be prepared for that.
6. MUST READ CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE. Try to ignore the forced romance, that was just about the worst part of the book, but the rest of it kind of made up for that, at least for me.
7. You’ll like Warcross I think. It is VERY much like Ready Player One.
8. Scythe was also pretty good. I think you’ll like that. I have plans to eventually start Thunderhead soon.
9. YAY giveaways! I honestly love that book. I know I personally have read it a dozen or so times. It’s just, it’s so good.
10. I didn’t want to end on an odd number because I don’t like odd numbers.
phew. I told you I had a lot of thoughts!
I have read Divergent and want to read Outlander, but I probably won’t read any of the others haha (and lets be honest, I probably won’t ever read Outlander either because it is HUGE)
Nooooo I’m so sad about Evelyn!!! (like everyone else lmao) But I hope you love so many of these when you (eventually) get to them! Perks and the Night Circus are some of my favourites, so I’d love to see your thoughts! And I have mixed feelings about the Darker Shade of Magic trilogy, so I’d love to see your thoughts for that, too!
But Divergent you can probably skip, tbh. It was fine, but there’s definitely better dystopian YA.
Hahaha. So much to possibly say on this one. Lol.
Evelyn is on my must read list. I kinda want to know about those 7 husbands… like really… 7??? Lol
COBAB was pretty awesome… I’m glad it’s on your probably list.
I’m probably… like 90% certain I won’t ever get into the Maas series.
I really loved Night Circus. While the romance was a big part, there’s so much more. I just loved the world of the circus and all the nuances of it, how it was built, how the individual attractions played a part…
Darker Shade of Magic is one that I do want to try and hope I do.
Rishi, Puddin and Turtles are all on my “would be nice to read but I probably won’t get around to it” list.
If time was infinite, I’m not sure any of these books would be a hard NO, but time seems more and more limited all the time. Hopefully we both get around to some of these in the near future!
Such truth in that comment for sure!
I hope you end up piking up Scythe, it was one of my favourite reads of last year!
Good to hear. Thanks Evelyn!
Really hope you like darker shade of magic, perks and scythe! Cruel prince is entertaining- hope you enjoy the rest of it!
Hahahahaha, I’ve read like 3 books on your list, but own a copy of most of them!! Let me know if you’re up for a buddy read on any of them! (Although fair warning I’m pretty bad at those too, but hoping it might commit me to read specific books…)
I’d be up for a buddy read. One of these or…. Midnight Beauties….
YES to Midnight Beauties!! I have it preordered, but it usually takes about 2 weeks to arrive in Aus. (I ordered the hardcover from the UK to match my copy of Grim Lovelies as we only get paperbacks in stores here…)
