Finally found something I love to blog about. BOOKS!
I ‘blogged’ for a long time. But it was chaos. Randomly, like once or twice a month, I’d think: I’LL WRITE A POST ABOUT THE MOVIE I JUST SAW! AND EVERYONE WILL READ IT, BECAUSE THEY’VE ALL JUST BEEN SITTING AT THEIR COMPUTERS WAITING FOR ME TO UPDATE!
Okay, I didn’t truly think people were waiting to read anything I wrote, but you get the idea. It was the wild west! There was no law. I needed something to focus my attention. Something I loved. And then… BOOKS!
The Interaction is addictive
As I said in an earlier post, when you make a post, it’s really no big deal. Then you get a few likes. Another person drops a comment. And before you know it, you’re checking for more likes and comments every 27 seconds.
It’s one of the few, rare good sides of the internet
The internet is one of the greatest inventions in our history, but it can be a truly toxic place. Message boards, Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, and about a million other sites are havens for people to show up and insult each other. It gets pretty bad. Worse than any schoolyard I’ve ever seen or heard about. The blogosphere, as far as I’ve seen so far, is the opposite. Which brings me to my next point…
Strong Community/Support
There aren’t a lot of places in the world, let alone the internet, where you can stand up on a soapbox and say, “I have an opinion on this book, who wants to hear it?” and the answer that comes back is a resounding, “We do!” You present an idea, which may or may not be a good idea, and the people in the ‘sphere say, “All right, then. Give it a shot!” It’s not hard to find ‘can nots’ in this world. They’re the people that ask why you bother writing about books, especially when there are so many other people doing it. But those people who are doing it are the ‘cans’, and they’ll always say, “room for one more.”
It’s so fun
‘Nuff said.
I agree with everything you said! I especially love the blogging/reading community. I’ve never read a negative comment here (unlike Facebook, where everything offends everyone) and I’ve met so many awesome people in just a month and a half.
OH, THE OFFENDED! It’s not just Facebook. It’s almost everywhere. If you were to say you like vanilla ice cream someone would find a way to take offence. Not here. A haven for bloggers of every kind from everywhere!
Great list. I totally agree. Blogging is really addictive and the people here are so supportive.
So many good points! I despise Facebook for that very reason. It’s honestly where all the keyboard renegades come out to play. I’m so tired of all the negativity and with book blogs there isn’t any of that. It’s just a bunch of book nerds talking about books – and it’s amazing!!! By the way, you should be totally pumped about getting to 100! May there be many more to follow – literally.
Thanks for sharing your reasons and participating!
I’m barely on Facebook, and when I am, I’m not where near the ‘drama’ that happens there, though I’m well aware of it. Happy to hold it at a distance, honestly.
And I hope you’re right about more followers following by followers post…. follow.
Follow follow follow….
Sorry
Completely agree with you about the whole ‘good side of the internet’ thing. There are some really really nasty people on the net, but all the bloggers I have interacted with are so lovely!
It’s nice knowing that you can voice your own opinions without some idiot jumping down your throat and being negative.
You’re right. I’m still getting over the shock of find a corner of the internet that’s like this. Faith in humankind renewed!
So much good stuff in this post! First of all, I completely agree with you, most social media networks are full of bullying and cruelty. Whether I agree with some of it or not, it’s still like a constant barrage of negativity. It gets to be too much for me. It’s also something I’ve never seen on the blogs, even the political blogs. There’s really no arguing. It’s one of my favorite things about spending my time on everyones blogs. It is incredibly inviting, and while there are a lot of book blogs that almost makes it better, because it means so many people to talk to! You may think you want to corner the market, but it would be lonely. I’d rather have a large group of people to talk to.
Congratulations on 100 followers!
Thank you so much!
I completely agree! 🙂 The blogging community is so supportive and positive and I definitely agree with everything you’ve mentioned here. Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! <3
Yes, yes, the interaction is addictive and the community is fantastic! Best surprise I had 😉
hehe I totally get what you mean about it being addictive 😉 And you are *so right* about this being one of those rare good parts of the internet- I just love how supportive the community is- it’s the best!! And it’s one of my favourite things about blogging 😀
