3 Facts About Me
1. I started reading as a kid with comics, and still go through a graphic novel every week.
2. I’ve never really been a big fan of chocolate.
3. I once challenged Justin Bieber to a fight over twitter. It was to be a live, televised event and all the proceeds going to charity. He didn’t respond.
4. I can’t count.
ER’s Questions
Name a book that has influenced or affected you in some way.
On Writing by Stephen King. It’s inspiring as someone who wants to be a writer, but I think just about anyone could find something inspiring to take from it. For example: King tried to throw his manuscript for Carrie in the garbage. His wife noticed, pulled it out, read it, and told him how good it was and that he had to send it to publishers. It ended up being his first book. It’s a writing story, but also, at its core, a story about not giving up.
If a person claims to be a bookworm, what book would you most expect him/her to have read?
Nothing in particular. My question would be more about how many books per year they read. To be clear, no matter the person’s answer, I’d never say it wasn’t enough. It’s all relative. I read a lot compared to a lot of people I know, but there are so many people in the blogosphere that make me feel I barely read at all!
Bookshops or libraries?
Bookshops. Don’t get me wrong, I love a library, but when I take a book home, they expect me to bring it back!
Which book would you pass on to your grandchild? Why?
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Not only because it’s a book I love and an incredible story, but it would also serve as a history book of sorts to the decade I grew up in.
What song is currently stuck in your head?
Vacation by The Dirty Heads
My Best Posts
Honestly, my best post isn’t even on my blog. It’s a guest post I wrote for Shanah @ The Bionic Bookworm about what we, as readers, owe to the authors we read.
I nominate:
Elizabeth @ Mountains of Books
Joel @ A Descendant of Poseidon Reads
Danielle @ The Introverted Bookworm
My Questions:
Favorite book you’ve read so far this year?
Binge watch a series, or watch an episode each week?
What’s the last thing you ate?
What’s the one book you think everyone should read?
How important is it to have matching socks?
I never knew that story about Steven King! He actually threw it out?! Insanity!!
Almost! Who knows what would have happened if she hadn’t pulled it out?
Hi JW!
That is awesome that you’ve challenge Biebs to a fight on twitter – Sounds like he chickened out on that one! Speaking of Justin Bieber, I met him when he was a kid: He was born and raised in a small town in Canada near where I live (Stratford). In high school, my friends and I went on a class trip and we saw a kid busking in front of the theatre – That was Justin Bieber (back when he was 10 years old and cute haha)! I am not much of a fan of his music but I love telling this story 🙂
I also really love On Writing – it is a book that I read again and again. When I feel discouraged about how hard it is to succeed as a writer, I always think about Stephen King’s story. Everyone has to start somewhere!
Thanks for nominating me! I really want to read Stephen King’s On Writing. I didn’t know that he tried to throw away Carrie. That’s crazy!!
Self-doubt can be a terrible thing! That’s why it’s important for writers to get over their fear of showing their work, as long as they’re showing it to people who will be honest, and as long as they have thick enough skin to take feedback. I find it’s only tough to take when it’s non-constructive.
I remember in school being very reluctant to change anything about my writing of a teacher asked me to. That’s why the drafting process was always hard for me. I would definitely need to get over that if I ever tried to write and publish anything.
It’s pretty easy with writing your own stuff. You just have to remember a few things. Only show it to people who will give CONSTRUCTIVE feedback. Once you have the right group of people, then it’s time for the other thing to remember: everyone giving you suggestions is only trying to make things better. Whether you agree with them or now, and whether they’re right or wrong, genuine feedback is only meant for positive change.
Very good advice!
hahaha oh man if only that Justin Bieber fight had happened 😉
