Last week, when I was reading The Midnight Front, I was trying to finish a chapter in bed, but I was getting sleepy. Normally when this happens I just end up having to re-read a few lines. This was something else completely.
Two magicians are facing off, throwing spells at each other. A magically summoned spear manifests out of nowhere and thrusts into a magic shield. Then, the ground starts to bleed marshmallows, and the fluffy white stuff forms a marshmallow monster than starts absorbing all the spells without slowing down. It’s unstoppable!
Wait… Marshmallow monster? My eyes pop open and I realize the monster was all me. I realized it, in the moment, and was able to read back the last few lines and separate what was on the page and what was in my head.
But that begs the question: Has this happened before? And that leads to more questions. How many times has it happened before? Are there any moments that I’ve always considered to be favorite moments that never actually happened?
Am I alone here? Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Haven’t happened to me like that, but i did have dreams related to books where the story went in different way. 😀
i drift off during audiobooks so there’s always a ‘how far back do i rewind’ that sometimes has me re-listening to a bunch and then saying “oh yeah i remember that”
Ha ha. I know what you mean. I always rewind so much and then I feel like I didn’t miss anything and wasted a bunch of time.
Marshmallow monster?! That sounds like fun. 🙂
It was pretty cool. I’m not going to lie, if that had been a real part of the story, probably would be my favourite part.
😄😄
That’s pretty cool and funny. For me it’s usually the book mixing into my dreams.
