Down the TBR Hole was created by Lia @ Lost in a Story. It’s a great way to clean up your TBR list, or possibly re-ignite the excitement for some of those books you haven’t thought of for a while.
HOW IT WORKS
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
More Than Human by Theodore Sturgeon
This is about a bunch of super-powered people that don’t know if they exist to help humanity or destroy it. ‘Nuff said. I don’t need to hear anything else.
IT’S STAYING!! |
The Old Man and the Wasteland by Nick Cole
This book is directly tied to Hemingway’s Old Man and the Sea, which I love. The synopsis says the main character has a copy of the book and it’s his most prized possession. For that alone…
IT STAYS!! |
Agent to the Stars by John Scalzi
I’ve only read one Scalzi book so far and, unfortunately, it left me unfulfilled. I haven’t given up on Scalzi. His books sound like they’re right up my alley. However, I’m don’t this is the one that will be my second Scalzi.
BE GONE! |
Daemon by Daniel Suarez
I like the idea of techno-thrillers. I’ve always been a bit of a techie. However, I’ve read a few, and they never seem to really do that much for me. Daemon certainly doesn’t sound bad, but now that I re-read the synopsis, it doesn’t make me excited.
GO!! |
Pump Six by Paolo Bacigalupi
I don’t read a lot of short stories, but that’s something that I want to change.
STAY IN THERE! |
Two more off the list!!
Fun fact about this post: I haven’t been building my TBR for that long, and now I’m only looking at books I added 9 months ago!

I’m curious to hear which Scalzi you’ve read. I’ve actually never heard of this one!
I read Lock In. It wasn’t a bad book, I suppose, but I felt let down by it. It’s premise was so unique and then the story wasn’t.
Wow! That is awesome. I don’t even want to look at my TBR to be honest. I know on Goodreads I am up to about 450 books, sooooooo needless to say I am a little too intimidated to peak at it. But that is super awesome that you have dwindled down your TBR so much that you are only 9 months in!
As far as the Scalzi book, I just HATE when that happens. It is such a bummer, and I know I personally am discouraged from picking up another book by the same author soon after a disappointment like that.
Side note- I LOVE that you used GIFs to express your choices for these books :] Super unique and fun
450?!?! I’m only about 150.
And thank-you. This was the first time I used the GIFs, but it really made it a lot more fun putting the post together!
Haha yes yes I know, that is a ridiculous number but I am perfectly fine with hoarding books on Goodreads…. I swear I am…
They do make it fun! That is why I love using them, I feel like I enjoy the process much more.
Goodreads is a dangerous place. You start by looking into a book you heard about and suddenly you’ve added 72 books to your TBR and lost 2 hours!
100% what happens to me.
Also- When you surf book blogs all day long and leave your Goodreads open, you end the day with like 90 adds to your TBR.
Love the giifs! and I’m definitely adding More than Humans to my tbr, I read the goodreads synopsis and it just sounds so good. I need it there haha
