You might have noticed I didn’t really post last week. Maybe you didn’t.
All bookworms know about reading slumps. I’m willing to bet that most of us have been through one or seven. But have you found yourself in a blogging slump?
I hit one. And I didn’t like it.
It was another busy week at work, so maybe that’s really all it was. I hadn’t been reading much either, so I didn’t have any ammo for a review. And every time I sat down to write a post, I just didn’t ‘feel’ like writing anything. The ideas I had jotted down in my idea vault all seemed useless and uninteresting.
I would think about doing a meme, and look up a few that could apply to that day. Nothing. Then I looked at memes that could exist on any given day. Still nothing.
I didn’t feel like I had anything to say about anything that would be worth reading.
Feels like I’m through it now. Finding the time is still a challenge, but the desire to post something is back—still not sure if it’s worth reading, though.
I noticed that you were a bit absent!
I think we all experience slumps every now and then, so I don’t think you’re strange haha! Hopefully you’re through it now 🙂
I hope so too!
I went through a giant slump between November of last year and April of this year. I only posted like six times in April (if that!). I was so busy with work and life and every single time I sat in front of my computer to write something, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I have like 20 unpublished drafts that will probably never see the light of day because they’re trash. I’m forcing myself to write this month, to get myself back into the habit, to make everything work better than it did before. So far I’ve posted every day this month, but I feel like there could be burnout coming lol It all depends on how busy work is, because during my downtime I’m able to write and schedule a few days in advance.
Good to hear you’re back at it consistently! Sorry to hear the slump was so long, though…
It was like everything hit at once! I guess I just needed some more motivation.
I go through slumps all the time – reading. blogging, writing, and just general life slumps. In fact, I’m pretty sure we refer to the last decade of my life as a “slump.” I’ve been reading a lot lately, but I feel like I’m in a writing slump. It’s getting on my nerves a bit. I know it will pass though. It always does.
I feel that. I guess there’s a slump for just about anything
Sadly, “life slump” is not a valid excuse to stay home from work. Believe me, I’ve tried.
I went through one last year for a few months and it was horrible. I finally came out of it when I revamped my blog and felt much happier about blogging again. 🙂
You are not stranger than normal! I get into blogging slumps too! I go through phases where I post a ton and then phases when I don’t post anything. “Advice to bloggers” posts I have read have said to schedule your posts and spread them out so when you are in a slump your posts don’t slack, but I am always so excited to post my posts I can’t wait more than a day or two to post them haha.
I think it’s tough in today’s age of rapid consumption to constantly create content. It’s exhausting – so slumps are bound to happen. That’s why I stick with monthly reviews. Less pressure. And, also I’m a shit blogger.
You were missed!
And your posts are always worth reading… except for the tagging parts of your tags 😉
Hope you have back the desire to blog and a sliver of spare time soon!
Oh yeah, I’ve had lots of slumps. I don’t feel bad anymore when I take time off, and I always get excited to start blogging again😊
No fun fact?!?
Yes I am actually currently in a posting slump! I had a post about the Great American Read all set up and a few other things but I haven’t been able to bring myself to get to…it happens to the best of us. Glad you’re coming out of it though!
There’s nothing fun about being in a slump!
Truth
I think blogging slump is real and can happen to anyone. As far as i noticed, lot of bloggers put so much pressure on themselves when it comes to blogging, and it goes from being a fun activity to being something really stressful and overwhelming.
I don’t think you should feel bad. It’s not like you have neglected your job or family or anything like that. It’s ok to take a break and do something else. It might even inspire another blog post you feel excited about.
I think we all experience slumps – both in reading and blogging. When they hit at the same time it’s even worse!! In all fairness though, you were super busy with work and everything else. When your mind is focused elsewhere it’s hard to focus on a blog. It will come back, and you’ll be better than ever!
I completely sympathise, blogging slumps are so annoying!! I normally get them when i’m really stressed about uni work and i often find that i just have no ideas or i write half a post but don’t like it so delete it! So don’t worry, you’re definitely not alone!!
I certainly relate to this! I’ve been in a blogging slump in the past and it is so hard. Part of it is when you have so much on your plate that blogging feels more like a chore… that is the time to take a break and make the heart grow fonder, Then you’ll come back with all sorts of ideas! <3
