I have a problem. And I clearly need help.
We all have massive TBRs, right? (right??) And we all have books on our bookshelf, right? (I’m not alone, am I?) And those of us who like/don’t mind eBooks are bound to have a few titles on our reading devices that haven’t been read (or opened…)
Yeah… Well… I was looking through mine the other day, and starting sorting into read and unread. THERE ARE OVER 100 UNREAD BOOKS IN MY KINDLE APP!!!
How did this happen? I don’t even have all those titles on my TBR, but there they are, waiting to be read. You’d think that would send me into a tailspin where I’d lock down on eBooks. No more buying. DON’T EVEN LOOK! But, no. I went a browsed Amazon’s deal store in the middle of writing this post! I have a problem!
Mainly, I blame Book Riot and BookBub, though there are a few more culprits lurking out there on the internet. A bunch of my books were free downloads, a lot of them $1-$2 deals.
How do you turn down a book that sounds awesome is only a buck or two? How do you turn down books that sound great and are Free-99?
So how do other people deal with this addiction hobby?
Fun fact about this post: Almost bought a digital set of books (4 of them!) in the middle of writing this, then I remembered WHY I was writing this and closed my browser completely.
See, this is one of the few reasons I try to stick with paper books. If I switched strictly to e-reader I’d turn into a book hoarding monster. They’re too cheap, it’s too easy….IT’S A TRAP.
Kindle needs to make a shelf for “cheap/free books no one has time to read”. 😊
You are not alone! I probably have close to 500 unread books between my Kindle and Audible library, and actually to be honest probably more than that but who’s counting?🙃
How I justify this? It is a healthy addiction, right?
I don’t know how healthy of an addiction it is, but there are many, many other addictions that are all much, much worse!
You are not alone. Book Bub is evil. They keep offering me good stuff for free or really cheap! I know exactly what you mean. I don’t even want to know how many unread titles are on my kindle. I’d knock myself out if I figure it out. Now, what’s this business about a place named Book Riot????
I get you – but I only have around over 50 on my Kindle app and I think I might just force myself to read it this summer – if anything to ensure the money spent isn’t wasted!
😂😂 I love that you were browsing for more books whilst you are writing this up. I’m the same I love a bargain and free books and dread to think how many books I have on my Kindle App. Just don’t sign up to the audible daily deal cos you’ll have the same problem but with audiobooks instead!
To make matters worse, I don’t even read on my kindle and I have dozens of books backed up and ready to go on there. I also take advantage of all those freebies and deals, and just keep clicking to add even though I know I may never get to them because I don’t like to read on my kindle…
You are not alone, at all
Most of my digital reading is courtesy of NetGalley! Lol.
I have hundreds of books on me shelves that I haven’t touched, multiple library wish lists that I haven’t read, oodles on me kindle that just be sitting there, and over a thousand on me Goodreads shelves as reminders to future reads. I need several more lifetimes. Following bloggers continues to send all of those lists skyrocketing and yet I can’t help it. I added over 15 books from this morning’s blog hopping alone. So I hear ye matey. Aye, I hear ye loud and clear.
