First Impression Friday | The Darkest Star

Welcome to another First Impression Friday. In case this is your first time, here’s the rundown:

• Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions
and predict
what you’ll think by the end.
• Did you think you’d love and ended up hating it? Or did you think
you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right?
• Link back to Storeys of Stories so I can enjoy reading all the
First Impression Fridays out there!

This one came in from Raincoast Books (thanks, RB!) There seemed to be a lot of hype around it, and I was pretty surprised to be lucky enough to get a copy.

Let’s talk about The Darkest Star by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

“When seventeen-year-old Evie Dasher is caught up in a raid at a notorious club known as one of the few places where humans and the surviving Luxen can mingle freely, she meets Luc, an unnaturally beautiful guy she initially assumes is a Luxen…but he is in fact something much more powerful. Her growing attraction for Luc will lead her deeper and deeper into a world she’d only heard about, a world where everything she thought she knew will be turned on its head…”

There are some things that have me intrigued, but so far I’m not loving it. I’m a little curious about some of the characters, but they don’t seem very likeable so far.

There’s certainly potential in the things that are being addressed, but even at less then 100 pages in, I wish the pace would pick up just a little!

My Prediction: 3 stars.

Fun fact about this post: This one was officially published on the 30th. LATE AGAIN!
