We all love books, you probably wouldn’t be reading this if you didn’t, but it’s also a good idea to turn your head slightly to the left and look at something other than the printed word. Don’t be afraid. I’ll hold your hand.
I was tagged on this one by the always entertaining Danielle @ The Introverted Book Nerd. She had some great answers too, so make sure you check out her post when you’re done here.
NAME A CARTOON THAT YOU LOVE
There are so many. I’ll always be a big kid at heart and find myself drawn to animation. But for the other parents out there, I’m going to give you one that you and your kids can enjoy together. Gravity Falls. When I say you’ll enjoy it, I don’t mean it’s less terrible than shows that may or may not have purple dinosaurs. Gravity Falls is really, really funny, while still being appropriate for kids. Go seek it out. You’ll thank me.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SONG RIGHT NOW?
Vacation by The Dirty Heads
“Hey, hey, hey. I’m on vacation every single day ‘cause I love my occupation.”
It’s catchy as hell, but for me it also represents my life goal: being able to write full-time. When that day comes, Vacation will be more than a song I like. It’ll be anthem.
WHAT COULD YOU DO FOR HOURS THAT ISN’T READING?
Video games! I love them and hate them. Love them because they’re so amazing and hours can disappear without even realizing it. Hate them because they’re so amazing that hours can disappear without even realizing it. I have pretty good control these days. I barely turn video games on anymore, and when I do it’s usually based on some kind of reward system. (if I get all my blog posts scheduled for the week and there’s still a little time before bed, hell yeah it’s getting turned on!)
WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT YOU LOVE TO DO THAT YOUR FOLLOWERS WOULD BE SURPRISED BY?
Woodworking, I guess. It’s not something I do terribly often, but when I’m working away at a project, it’s one of the most rewarding experiences. This time last year I built my kids a set of bunk beds.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE, UNNECESSARILY SPECIFIC THING TO LEARN ABOUT?
The publishing industry? And more specifically I guess would be the lengthy process that a book goes through before it finally hits a bookshelf somewhere.
WHAT IS SOMETHING UNUSUAL YOU KNOW HOW TO DO?
I can wiggle my ears. Technically, I know how to flex a muscle that tightens the scalp on the back of my head, which pulls my ears back. But it’s way more fun to say I can wiggle my ears.
Back when I worked retail I’d wiggle them while customers were talking and watch their reaction and if they’d mention it or not. Yes, I was bored.
NAME SOMETHING THAT YOU’VE MADE IN THE LAST YEAR.
Other than the previously mentioned bunk beds, I also made a purse rack for my wife to show off book purses that she makes.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST RECENT PERSONAL PROJECT?
Either then first draft of the NaNoWriMo story I’m working on now, or if unfinished projects don’t count, then the second draft of another book (which I put into the hands of some beta readers on the first of the month!)
TELL US SOMETHING THAT YOU THINK OF OFTEN.
My kids.
TELL US SOMETHING THAT’S YOUR FAVORITE, BUT MAKE IT ODDLY SPECIFIC.
Red Swedish Fish. The other colors are delicious, too, but red takes the top spot. You may ask, why not swedish berries. They’re made of red swedish fish. How dare you? Not even close to the same thing.
I tag Darque Dreamer, Steph, Norah Sumner, Journey into Books, Hanah, Elizabeth, and Kiersten. No pressure. I understand if you don’t have the time, or already did the tag.
Thank you for tagging me! So many things I want to say about this post. The song is great and the video is too haha. Woodworking is such an awesome skill to have. The bunk bed and purse rack are both beautiful! You’re a regular Ron Swanson. AND I love video games too. What are some of your favorites?
Thank you for all the kind things. I’ve only recently started watching Parks & Rec, but Ron is definitely my favourite character, so that compliment means that much more.
Favourite video games? That’s tough. Ever-changing. GTA, Hitman, Fallout, and Dead Rising are all ‘auto-buy’ series. I’ve been really good for the past couple years and don’t play video games very often. I might play 1 day a week, if there’s time and I feel like I accomplished enough writing that day or week.
How about you?
I just finished Parks & Rec a few weeks ago and I miss the characters so much. Such a funny show.
I haven’t played GTA since like…Vice City I think lol, but I definitely had fun with it. I love Fallout so much. I started with Fallout 3, which is my favorite, and I’m actually STILL on New Vegas (just finishing up the last 2 DLC’s) because I never have time for games anymore either. I probably play 1-2 times a month at this point. Some other ones most recently are Borderlands, Diablo III, Far Cry Primal, and I love my Nancy Drew games.
Ohh! Far Cry is cool! Though, I haven’t played Primal. Just Cause is another cool one.
I’ve never played Just Cause but it looks fun! Primal is my first FC game but the one coming out in February looks awesome. I’m excited that it will be co op!
Are you XBOX or PlayStation?
PlayStation, but mostly pc! You?
Playstation? I’m sorry. We can no longer be friends.
Lol. jk. I’m XBOX. Used to be a PC gamer, but got tired of always having to upgrade my machine to be able to play games. Plus, I got a MacBook a few years ago and now I don’t think I’ll ever go back to a PC.
Haha 😂 Yeah, I get that. I’ve had the same computer since 2008(?) that my ex built for me and only now is it starting to bother me. I can’t even do max speed in the sims without it getting jumpy on me. *sigh* But last month I bought a laptop (not a gaming one) but good enough specs to play Fallout and skyrim on highest settings so I’m happy. I just couldn’t justify upgrading my computer and spending all that money when I have no time to play games.
SKYRIM! I forgot to mention Skyrim. Love that game. But I can’t play anymore. It’s too much time to invest.
It really is! I’ve done most of the side quests, most of the main quest, and all the guild stuff, but now when I go into the game I have no idea where I am, what I’m doing, and my pack is all full of junk. So I just leave. Lol
Your woodworking is amazing! Wow!! And you mentioned your wife makes book purses?! So cool!! Does she sell them? How did you like Thor: Ragnarok?! I saw it opening weekend and I thought it was really great!
Thanks! Yes, my wife does sell the odd book purse. She doesn’t make a lot of them, but when she does, she tends to want to keep each one she makes. Our local used book store owner almost refuses to sell her books now, cause the creation involves destroying a book. 😐
I thought Ragnorak was awesome. Definitely in my top 5 of the MCU movies. I cannot wait for Infinity War! I suppose Justice League this weekend will have to suffice for a while!
Gravity Falls is everything and I’m so glad someone else appreciates it! Personally, I’m not a big video game fan but my bf is so all the knowledge I have is passed on from him 😛
So much of what my boys watch doesn’t interest me in the least, and vice versa. But then these little gems come along that we can all enjoy. Teen Titans Go, Wreck-It Ralph, and, of course, Gravity Falls!
Gravity Falls is awesome!!!
Hell yeah it is!!
What kind of video games do you play? I am loving the new call of duty on my ps4, but I usually play Dark Souls 3 or Fallout on my PC. Bloodborne is my absolute fav., but I also loved Dead Space and Bioshock.
Fallout is one of my favourite series of all time. I also like the GTA series, Hitman, and Skyrim. Lately, I’ve been trying not to play video games. I usually set myself a task, and if there’s time after getting it done, I get to play video games. Usually, though, there’s one a half hour before bed, and I’m not going to play video games for half an hour. Even if I mean to, it won’t work out that way. I’ll end up playing for two and half hours and be tired as hell the next day!
I never really got in to GTA, but I played Skyrim for a while. I am the same way with games. I try to set a time limit but it never works out. My brother and I played COD from about 5 pm until 1:30 am the other night on accident, lol.
HOLY CRAP! That’s a shift at work!
Haha. I know! He was on vacation, and I’m a housewife, so it was the perfect time.
Gravity falls is great!! Wow that’s really impressive that you do woodworking! haha I love your choice for something oddly specific 😉
Thanks!
You’re welcome!
