April has begun, Spring is in the air and on our minds, and the weather is finally getting nicer! What does this mean for us bookworms? Not much. Just more people trying to dig us out of holes with comments like, “Why don’t you go outside? It’s such a beautiful day!”
On this, the first Top 5 Tuesday of April, let’s talk about books that should have a prequel. You can get in on this conversation, as well as every other T5T conversation, by following along with Shanah the Bionic Bookworm.
Ready Player One
The Halladay Book! I want a book about James Halladay building and developing the Oasis. All the way up to the book’s ending, when Halladay dies, and his contest begins.
To Kill a Kingdom
I don’t know exactly what I want from this one, but I just want more Lira.
Steelheart
This book starts with most cities already taken over by super-powered villains. Why not have a book where we get to see how everything was taken over, and the birth of the Reckoners (the group that fights back against the Supers)
The Last Namsara
When we meet Asha, she’s already a dragon-slaying bad-ass. I want to see her learning to become that bad-ass.
Ex-Heroes
This one is a superhero novel and a zombie novel. So, picture the Walking Dead but with superheroes randomly showing up from time to time, some as ‘humans’ and some as super-powered zombies. I’d like to see the heroes fighting the zombies at the time of the outbreak. Basically, I was to see this world’s version of Fear the Walking Dead!
I love your idea about a prequel about James Halladay, I wonder if authors ever write prequels based on reader’s comments?
Crap, I totally forgot about RPO! That would make a great Prequel. Also, I’ve never heard of ExHeroes, but that sounds AWESOME! I love Superhero and zombie stories! I’m going to check that out now!
I’ve only read the first one so far, but it was so much fun! Total popcorn book, but still, so much fun. I think the series is at its 5th book now, and I do plan on reading the rest eventually!
Popcorn books are exactly what I’ve been enjoying lately. It sounds perfect.
Ah! Somebody else who’s read the Ex-Heroes series! I thought about putting that one on my own list, but I felt like there was enough backstory given throughout the books as to who started the apocalypse that it would’ve been a bit redundant.
I thought about RPO on it, but decided that I needed to go with a few books that were not quite as popular.
RPO is in the forefront of my mind. Lol. Within the last week I did a re-read and saw the movie.
And as far as ex-Heroes goes, I’ve only read the first one so far, (I promise, I’m totally going to read the rest!) so I haven’t gotten all of that backstory yet.
I meant to reread the book before I saw the movie, but that didn’t happen due to life. Unfortunately. My new goal is to reread it within the next week, since I saw the movie on Friday and it’s still fresh in my mind.
Overall, I liked the movie, but I had to think of it as a re-telling. They changed way too much for it to be a adaptation.
Exactly. They changed it to be pretty on screen and to add a love story. It was a good movie if you separate it from the source material.
A prequel of Ready Player One would be AMAZING!!! I want to know all the things – how it was set up and all the different hidden places that I’m sure are there. Also more 80’s nostalgia….. i’m always game for that! GAME for that…. see what I did there?? Well I think I’m funny….. lol!
Thanks for participating – added you to the list π
I actually DNF’d Ready Player One – I didn’t dislike it exactly but once I heard the movie was coming out I was like like ‘Ya know what, the movie might be better than the book’ since it’s just so visually stimulating. But I agree a Halladay book would be interesting. He’s probably the most compelling, mysterious character!
Funny! I just finish reading Steelheart! π
Did you LOVE it? I was hooked by the first page of the prologue!
So get what you mean about wanting more Lira- I just finished to kill a kingdom the other day and loved it π
So great!
If this was a top 10 Ready Player One would have been on my list as well for the same thing! I can’t get enough of that world!!
Same! Did you see the movie yet?
I haven’t!! Have you? I’ve heard it’s so different from the book but still really good.
I did! And I agree with that. A lot of changes. Too many changes, personally. But there were still A LOT of things about the movie/world that I really loved. Go into it thinking you’re about to see a re-telling instead of an adaptation. I think it’s better that way.
Awesome! Thanks for the advice, I will definitely do that.
i’d defo read the prequel to ready player one and steelheart <3
To Kill a Kingdom is …everywhere! And I need to read the last Namsara. So I’ll say good choice once I’ll have read them Joe π
Anything Brandon Sanderson needs a prequel haha
OH YES, we do need a prequel, sequel or anything with more Lira in it. I recently read and LOVED To Kill a Kingdom and I can’t believe there isn’t more, I need more right now haha, it was really a fantastic book π x
