First Impression Friday | The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

Welcome to another First Impression Friday. In case this is your first time, here’s the rundown:

• Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end.
• Did you think you’d love and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right?
• Link back to Storeys of Stories so I can enjoy reading all the First Impression Fridays out there!

Enough about rules! Let’s talk about The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater!

I’ve been rinsing through the entire Raven Cycle series over the last few months and I’ve been loving every minute of it. The characters feel like people I actually know that I just haven’t seen in a while.

So, with how much I’ve been loving the rest of the series, I didn’t have any doubt about this one. And first impressions are hard with these books, mainly because they’re so seemless from one to the next. It doesn’t feel like I’ve started a fourth book as much as another chapter in the same book.

The one thing I will say that threw me a little was the sudden inclusion of Jimi. Before this book, she’s barely made an appearance, and now she’s in the forefront, trying to fill Persephone’s shoes, I suppose.

My prediction:

5 stars, of course. Maybe 4.5 if the ending upsets me…

Fun fact about this post: I haven’t been reviewing these books as I go because I’ve been planning on doing one big review of the whole series.
