First Impression Friday | Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

Welcome to another First Impression Friday. In case this is your first time, here’s the rundown:

• Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions
and predict
what you’ll think by the end.
• Did you think you’d love and ended up hating it? Or did you think
you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right?
• Link back to Storeys of Stories so I can enjoy reading all the
First Impression Fridays out there!

I’ve been looking to get into more Sanderson books. Steelheart was awesome and I’ve read a bit of Legion, and it was really cool, but beyond the novels he finished for Robert Jordan, I haven’t gotten into any true Sanderson fantasy. So here we go.

Let’s talk about Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson.

“In a world where ash falls from the sky, and mist dominates the night, an evil cloaks the land and stifles all life. The future of the empire rests on the shoulders of a troublemaker and his young apprentice. Together, can they fill the world with color once more?

In Brandon Sanderson’s intriguing tale of love, loss, despair and hope, a new kind of magic enters the stage — Allomancy, a magic of the metals.

Fell in love with this, right off the first chapter, first page. Kelsier as one of the main characters is instantly likeable, but also instantly mysterious. He has a past that we’re given little clues about, but that’s it. There’s still a lot that we’ll find out about. Later.

The other main, Vin, I don’t know what to think of. She’s got potential, but she’s nowhere near as interesting as Kelsier.

What really lit my brain on fire was the magic system. It’s so unique, and so cool. The synopsis tells you I’m talking about “Allomancy, a magic of metals” but trust me, that tells you NOTHING about how amazing this magic system is. I’ve been told that it just keeps getting better and better as the novel goes on.

I can’t wait to get deeper into this one!

My Prediction: 4+ stars.

Fun fact about this post: Once again, a certain Bionic Bookworm provided the extra push to finally get going on this one.
