Without Me by Halsey – Music Monday

Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by the insanely funny Drew @ the Tattooed Book Geek. It’s a great way to ease into the week because it doesn’t require a lot of research or writing. You just pick a song that you dig and talk about it, as much or as little as your little heart desires. That’s it.

Most of my aural time is spent with podcasts or audiobooks. So for a song to be on my mind a lot, it’s gotta be one heck of an ear worm. As is the case with Without Me by Halsey.

When I first started listening to it, I wasn’t pay real close attention to the lyrics, and it felt like a genuine love song. Then I started to pay attention and quickly realized it’s about a toxic relationship.

Check out some lyrics:

Found you when your heart was broke
I filled your cup until it overflowed
Took it so far to keep you close
I was afraid to leave you on your own
I said I’d catch you if you fall
And if they laugh, then fuck ’em all
And then I got you off your knees
Put you right back on your feet
Just so you can take advantage of me
Tell me how’s it feel sittin’ up there
Feeling so high but too far away to hold me
You know I’m the one who put you up there
Name in the sky
Does it ever get lonely?
Thinking you could live without me
Thinking you could live without me
Baby, I’m the one who put you up there
I don’t know why
Thinking you could live without me
Live without me
Baby, I’m the one who put you up there
I don’t know why
Fun fact about this post: I don’t know how to pronounce Halsey. Is it HALL-see, or HAILS-ee? Someone please tell me, because my internalizer is broken over this one.
